ECTFE (Halar®) coating provides heavy-duty corrosion and chemical protection for your products and equipment.

E-CTFE (ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene) is a fluoropolymer coating marketed as Halar®, by Solvay. Halar® coatings are known for their ability to protect against corrosion and harsh chemicals such as caustics, oxidizing agents, and most solvents, making them ideal for use in the chemical, filter, pump, medical, and semiconductor industries. Halar® coatings also provide excellent electrical insulation and antistatic properties, as well as UV resistance for exterior use. It has exceptional machinability and high purity.

Halar® coatings are available for food contact applications and comply with US FDA requirements. For medical applications, Halar® medical Black is both electrically insulating and sterilizable.
Halar® coatings can be applied in layers from 300 to over 1000 µm thick.

E-CTFE (Halar®) for protection in harsh chemical environments

E-CTFE (Halar®) is a melt-processable fluoropolymer coating that forms a chemical, acid, and permeation barrier over substrates. Average DFT (Dry Film Thickness) is approximately 800 µm thick. In general, thicker films mean better protection.   Halar® is the coating of choice for long-term protection against acids, bases, and solvents for IBC interiors, process and storage tanks, pipe coatings, caustic exhaust uptakes, pumps, couplings, filters, agitators and impellers.  E-CTFE (Halar®) coatings also have excellent nonstick properties and resistance to mechanical abrasion.

ECTFE (Halar®) as corrosion protection coating

E-CTFE (Halar®) creates a barrier around substrates that provides long-term corrosion protection against permeation by water vapor, oxygen, carbon dioxide, chlorine gas, hydrochloric acid, and other gases. Corrosion protection coatings based on fluoroplastics such as E-CTFE (Halar®) have excellent thermoplastic properties.

More about corrosion protection

E-CTFE (Halar®) is electrically insulating according to ATEX-2014-34-eu Guidelines and include an antistatic version.

The electrically conductive and electrically insulating properties of E-CTFE (Halar®) coatings make them ideally suited for use in potentially explosive environments. Electrically insulating coatings with E-CTFE (Halar®) can achieve an electrical breakdown force of up to 35 kV/mm.

E-CTFE sterilizable and electrically insulated coating.

Halar® medical Black is an electrically insulating coating that is sterilizable, with no visible color change.  In addition, the high purity of Halar® coatings means they can be used in sensitive applications such as electrosurgery tools - for example on mono and bipolar devices.
